SA Morogo, a black owned Agri-Processing and Food Distribution company, which has a focus on Indigenous Traditional African food has developed a truly innovative and uniquely African product.
The company offers canned Morogo wa Thepe (African Wild Spinach) popularly known as Umfino, Imbuya and Morogo.. The product is born from the need for quality, nutritious wholesome meals and also to hold onto our Traditional Indigenous African foods which we have grown up eating. The product is currently conveniently offered in two varieties being Traditional and Curry which are ready to eat and available in 400g cans. A can feeds a family of 3 to 4 people. Following research and testing the product also has a 3 year shelf life. In developing the product the company also has a view on empowering subsistence farmers whom they will partner with in cultivating the morogo and then act as market to the farmers by buying the produce from them for processing purpose. This approach will help make the farming enterprise sustainable.
The company also intends partnering with unemployed youth with an entrepreneurial spirit to act as agents and distributors in their communities thereby contributing to creating jobs wherever possible.
